What does Virus Filtering do?
Virus Filtering will scan all incoming and outgoing messages in your email account for known viruses, trojans or worms. It also blocks certain executable file attachments that can cause harm to your computer.
Will it catch all email viruses and trojans?
Virus Filtering will catch every known virus using McAfee Virus Scanning technology. Virus definitions are updated automatically as soon as they are released for the best security. We recommend that you still keep your Antivirus and Security software up to date for ultimate protection.
What happens to an email that is infected with a virus or trojan or executable file attachment?
All infected or dangerous email messages are deleted immediatly for safety before they reach your mailbox.
What file attachment types are blocked and how do I allow them if needed?
Currently we block: exe, bat, scr, com, vbs, vap, vac, pif. If you do need to send or receive files with these attachments we recomend that you Zip these files. You may edit your filtering rules through your SmarterMail control panel to remove the exclusion for a file type if needed.
